BOXING FOOLISHNESS!
It says a lot about the state of heavyweight boxing, unfortunately, that the best-known big guy out there right now might just be named "The Big Show."
At an announced 7-foot-1 and 441 pounds, Paul "Big Show" Wright arguably got more ink and just as much TV face time as any of the current heavyweight boxing champions. And all "Big Show" did was lose to 159-pound, 5-foot-8 Floyd Mayweather in a circus-ring Wrestlemania XXIV event that should have been staged two days later on April Fools' Day.
As foolish and lucrative as that "fight" might have been, it was the polar opposite of the foolishness and paucity of the real heavyweight title bouts being fed to boxing fans these days. The wrestling show drew a reported crowd of 74,000-plus to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando and a pay-per-view audience that shelled out $54.95 apiece, equal to the charge for boxing's biggest pay-per-view telecasts.
